Thanks for posting the interview. It was a good listen. I have a lot of thoughts but I leave you with a couple. Fly fishing was my gateway to enjoying the sport of fishing. I had no real interest in fishing until I picked up a fly rod. If someone would have given me that reply, I would have been turned off; not to fly fishing, but to the culture of fly fishing. When I started, I became a hardcore trout fisherman who didn't understand a steelheader's mentality. But I loved to cast a fly rod and I became enamored with casting. That was my path to chasing steelhead.
I think that you should post some of your outtakes and bloopers. That would be entertaining. You have some great stories and I'm envious at how you are able to articulate your thoughts and ideas.

Tight lines,
Keith

Nearly two years ago April interviewed me at my home for her podcast.  I’m very happy with how this turned out.

After spending time on her site, I can see why she’s putting in the effort. Our oral history should not fall into a black hole.

Thanks for listening.

I started out switching hands, because back then it was considered the proper way, cack handed was frowned upon by the traditional crowd. But the more I watched Ed chuck dead chickens casting off shoulder, I thought what the hell is wrong with that? Tight loops, line speed, distance, effortless, it was all there. I had to find out how that worked.

I did, & it spoiled me. Now, a cack handed Double Spey is my favorite cast. It would probably take at least a week to get back to the old way. I hold my running line with both hands, top had against the corks, over the reel to the bottom hand pinching it against the bulb at the bottom end of the lower grip. Rather than loops or coils, I use the George Cook method for dummies. held lightly over the bottom hand pinky. Works for me.

Beautiful flies.   Welcome to the forum.

I believe that line is perfect, but I'm not the OPST expert.  Maybe someone will comment.

Forum has been slow for a while.  It needs some fresh ideas.

Best,

Jeff Mishler

Hi Everyone!
My name is André, I'm from Brazil and just ordered a custom switch rod (#3/4, 11", 4 pcs, blank IM12 medium-fast action) and for made pair with this beauty, a OPST Commando head 175 grains with 10' floating tip and.
I will fishing for small peacock bass (lass than 3 lbs) and other smaller fishes, using weightless streamers, small poppers (#4 size hook) and small intruders.

Question: The line set up it's good for the rod?  Huh

Thaks for all!
